LUCKY ME
I just received a letter in the mail from SPECTRUM, the annual which features the best of fantasy art of the year. Being that they do not send out letters for not being chosen, I figured it was a letter informing me that one of my entries was selected. My guess was that it was for my cover illustration for this past summer's Comic Con Event Guide, and my guess was correct. Since the Comic Con prints a gazillion of those, anyone in the art-media industry that attended would recognize the cover. Fact is, I only entered it because I knew it had such a good chance of being selected and not because I thought it was one of my better pieces, but I'm certainly happy that it was chosen.

I spent every waking moment during the beginning of the week story-boarding a couple scenes for a Warner Bros direct-to-video sequel to New Jack City. Though I'm receiving a teensie-weensie fee for my efforts, it is, by and large, a spec job.
Then I spent an entire day midweek assembling a portfolio to submit to Warner Bros. Animation. After driving all the way to their Burbank studio to drop it off, it turns out there were specific guidelines that I wasn't aware of. Naturally I came home and reorganized things to comply to the letter - - another busy day without pay.
